JDR Stars boosted their ambitions of securing promotion to the PSL after the Motsepe Foundation Championship's top two teams dropped points on Matchday 26.

Stars are in the third spot in the league standings after defeating Casric Stars 1-0 on Sunday and they are now three points behind second-placed University of Pretoria, and eight points leaders, Magesi FC.

Magesi were humbled by Maritzburg United who secured a 2-0 win over the log leaders on Saturday while the University of Pretoria were held to a 0-0 draw by a stubborn Venda FC on the same day.

Platinum City Rovers' relegation fears increased after they suffered a 3-0 loss to Marumo Gallants on Sunday, but they are three points from safety with four matches left in the current campaign.

NB La Masia and Milford FC are both just a point above the relegation zone after they drew 0-0 on Saturday, while Black Leopards are six points above the bottom two spots after thrashing Orbit College 3-0 on Friday.
