France scrumhalf Baptiste Serin has been ruled out of contention of next year's Six Nations with a shoulder injury, his club Toulon announced on Tuesday.

The 29-year-old had held hopes of a spot in Les Bleus' squad for the tournament starting in February with captain Antoine Dupont missing due to his Olympic sevens commitments.

Serin left the field in Toulon's Champions Cup defeat to Exeter Chiefs last weekend with his right arm in a sling.

"Injured last Saturday, @Serin_Baptiste will undergo an operation on a dislocated shoulder next week," Toulon said on social media.

"He will be absent for at least four months following the operation," the four-time French champions added.

Dupont will not feature at the Six Nations as he has decided to prepare to play at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.

Serin was part of France's pre-Rugby World Cup training camps but missed out on squad selection to Dupont, Maxime Lucu and Baptiste Couilloud.
