Blitzbok nightmare continues

What was supposed to be a promising start to the Los Angeles Sevens turned out to be a nightmare for the Blitzboks as they were whitewashed 17-0 by Ireland in their opening game.

All week coach Sandile Ngcobo has talked about raising the game and consistency but the triple first-half try-blow that the Irish dealt them will be hard to bounce back from.

Conor O'Sullivan scored in the opening minute and Zack Ward scored twice in the first half to deny the Blitzboks.

Their task gets tougher as they now need to win their next two games, with the next game being against series leaders Argentina at 20:36 (South African time). If they lose that one, the top-eight qualification for the cup will be long gone.

Their final game is against Spain at 00:54 on Sunday morning.
