Stellenbosch FC and Orlando Pirates were among the biggest winners in the Nedbank Cup round of 16 this week, while the University of Pretoria progressed to the quarterfinals of the tournament.

In what can be deemed as the surprise result in the round of 16, Motsepe Foundation Championship side AmaTuks bagged a 2-1 win over DStv Premiership outfit Moroka Swallows at the Tuks Stadium on Wednesday.

With the game tied at 1-1 until the 92nd minute of the match, Thabang Sibanyoni popped up with a crucial goal in stoppage time to give his side a well-deserved win on home soil.

Elsewhere, Milford welcomed Stellenbosch FC to the Princess Magogo Stadium on Friday, where they suffered a 6-1 defeat at the hands of Steve Barker’s charges. Fellow PSL outfit Orlando Pirates were likewise in goalscoring mood this week following their 4-0 win against Hungry Lions at the Orlando Stadium on Saturday.

Then on Sunday, Thembinkosi Lorch scored twice to guide Mamelodi Sundowns into the quarterfinals of the tournament following the Brazilians' 2-0 win over Maritzburg United at the Lucas Masterpieces Moripe Stadium.

The game was suspended for over an hour in Pretoria as a result of heavy thunder and lightning. Nevertheless, Downs managed to break down the stubborn Team of Choice backline with goals in the 73rd and 94th minutes.
