Celebrated South African coach Pitso Mosimane has a chance to steer Abha Club away from the relegation zone of the Saudi Pro League – at least for this weekend.

Abha can jump from third to fourth from bottom of the 18-member Saudi Pro League if they beat Al Akhdoud away on Saturday.

Mosimane's charges were handed the lifeline after Tuesday's 5-0 drubbing by Al Shabab, following fellow strugglers Al-Tai's 1-0 loss to Al-Feiha on Thursday.

Al-Tai sit in 15th place with 26 points from 29 games on the 18-member log table, and the loss means that Abha Club can leapfrog them.

This is the case as Al-Tai are just one point ahead of Abha Club who have a game in hand.

The team for the ex-Mamelodi Sundowns mentor lies one point in front of fellow strugglers Al Akhdoud who they face tomorrow.

It has been an up-and-down journey for the South African at Abha after joining them recently on a short-term contract with the mandate of saving the club from relegation.

Mosimane's outfit lost 8-0 to Al-Nassr on 2 April in what was the South African's biggest coaching career defeat, only to bounce back and beat Al-Fateh 2-1 five days later.

Up the table, Al Hilal lead on 80 points from 28 games, 12 in front of Al-Nassr.

Al-Hazm anchor the table with a meagre 19 points.
