The Scarlets ran in six tries as they claimed a highly-impressive 42-14 bonus-point win over Edinburgh in the United Rugby Championship on Saturday.
Coming into this weekend’s clash, Scarlets were 14th on the URC log, having managed just four wins from 13 games, while Edinburgh were precariously placed in 10th on the standings.
The Scottish side had just fallen out of a playoff place as a result of a recent defeat to the Sharks last month, and would have been targeting a much-needed win over Scarlets.
Yet, as it turned out, things almost immediately went the way of the hosts as tries to Ryan Conbeer and Vaea Fifita sent them into a handy 14-0 lead in the opening quarter.
Although Edinburgh did hit back with an important try to Murray McCallum, Scarlets would strike again before the break as Steff Evans sliced through the defence to re-establish a 14-point lead at the break.
At that point, the warning signs would have been flashing for Edinburgh, especially after managing just one win from their last six league outings.
The visitors had welcomed back Hamish Watson and Dave Cherry for this encounter, but there were several international players missing due to Six Nations duty, while a host of others were on the injury list.
In fairness, Scarlets also had five players absent with Wales, while as many as 13 were out injured.
With all this in mind, it was always going to be an unpredictable encounter, but very few would have foreseen a 35-7 scoreline in favour of Scarlets after just 50 minutes.
Yet as it turned out, two quickfire tries after halftime effectively opened up an unassailable lead for the home team, while substitute Eddie James also barged over late in the game to round off a wonderful result for the Welsh outfit.
