Franco Gonzalez’s last-gasp penalty snatched Uruguay a victory over Tunisia that sent them through to the knockout phase of the Fifa Under-20 World Cup Argentina 2023™ as Group E runners-up.

Montasser Louhichi’s team must wait to see if they will sneak through as one of the four best four third-placed finishers.

Uruguay dominated proceedings, but Dries Arfaoui’s reflexes frustrated Matias Abaldo, Juan de los Santos, Fabricio Diaz and Luciano Rodriguez. Just when the keeper's efforts looked to have secured a point, Raed Bouchniba was penalised for a handball in the box and Gonzalez tucked home the resulting penalty.

La Celeste will now meet the Group F winners in the last 16 in Santiago del Estero on Thursday.
