It was a festive atmosphere for the 17 463 fans on hand to see hosts Poland kick off their Fifa Under-20 World Cup campaign against Colombia, but Los Cafeteros brought their own energy and came away with a 2-0 victory at Lodz Stadium.

Forward Ivan Angulo opened the scoring in the 23rd minute, capitalising on an errant pass from Sebastian Walukiewicz. The Colombian No 7 was tireless, making runs between defenders before being subbed off. Colombia would add a second goal late on, this time with substitute Luis Sandoval doing the damage.

Both teams will play again on Sunday: Poland square off against a Tahiti side also looking for their first win, while Colombia take on Senegal at the top of Group A.
