SuperSport United defender Keegan Johannes has undergone surgery after suffering an ankle injury last month and is likely to miss the rest of the DStv Premiership season.

The 23-yeart-old, who had been a regular in the start this season, was hurt playing against AmaZulu in early March but only went under the surgeon’s knife last week.

A prognosis on the recovery is expected to be made later this week or next but club officials say it is highly unlikely he will be in action again this season.

SuperSport, who sit in fifth position in the DStv Premiership standings, have only seven games left this season after last weekend’s elimination from the Nedbank Cup at the hands of Stellenbosch.

Johannes’ place at right back has since been taken by Zambia international Gamphani Lungu, shifted back from his role on the wing by coach Gavin Hunt.

Johannes is in this third season at SuperSport after moving from Ajax Cape Town in 2020. He made his senior debut shortly before his 18th birthday and has long bene tipped by Hunt as a future Bafana international.
