Eguma rings the changes for Club Africain

Rivers United’s technical manager, Stanley Eguma has made five changes to the side that drew 0-0 with Rwanda’s club Rayon Sports for Sunday’s Caf Confederation Cup game against Club Africain.

Ayobami Asekunowo, Emeka Atuloma and Markson Ojobo who all failed to start in the stalemate at the Amahoro Stadium, Kigali either because they were substitutes or because of suspension will all be thrown into the deep end from the get go against the Tunisian side.

Two newly signed stars, Ayo Saka and John Odumegwu who joined the club a couple of weeks ago will both earn their Caf Confederation Cup debuts in the Group A contest which will be decided at the Stade Olympique de Radès, Radès.

As expected, veteran goalkeeper, Sunday Rotimi starts while forward, Bolaji Sakin will captain the side in the absence of Festus Austine who is suspended.

Nzube Anaezemba, Joseph Douhadji, Zoumana Doumbia and Emeka Ogbugh who all started in the cracker at the Amahoro on 22 April all get another chance to shine from the start in Tunis.

Eguma says he is confident his charges will avoid defeat against Chibeb Ellili’s men.

“I am confident of the team I have picked for the game,” he exclusively told supersport.com.

“The new boys (Odumegwu and Saka) have shown from their performances in training and at the Rivers State FA Cup that they can cope at this level.

“It is a pity that our captain is suspended but I am sure Douhadji and Ayobami will do well at the heart of our defence.

“We understand what the task is about as we are here to defend the honour and pride of Nigeria,” he said.

Rivers United are the only Nigerian club still in the running for glory for inter Caf club competitions this year after Enugu Rangers, FC Ifeanyiubah and Wikki Tourits all got toppled early on in the Caf Champions League and Confederation Cup.

Sunday’s game between Club Africain and Rivers United kicks off at 6pm Nigerian time at the Stade Olympique de Radès, Radès and is live on your world of champions, SuperSport.
