Zouzoua sets up Young Africans for convincing victory

Ivorian Pacome Zouzoua scored as Young Africans of Tanzania rose from last to second in CAF Champions League Group D with a 3-0 victory over Medeama of Ghana on Wednesday.

Zouzoua joined the Dar es Salaam club in July from Abidjan outfit ASEC Mimosas as a replacement for prolific Congolese scorer Fiston Mayele, who moved to Egyptian club Pyramids.

The 26-year-old west African has proved a valuable acquisition with the goal against Medeama his fourth in the elite African club competition.

His tally makes him the joint leading Champions League scorer this season with fellow Ivorian and former ASEC teammate Sankara Karamoko, Egyptian Mostafa Fathy and Malian Cheikh Fofana.

Zouzoua scored after 33 minutes and second-half goals from Bakari Nondo (61) and Mudathiri Yahya (66) sealed a convincing victory in the Tanzanian commercial capital.

A miserable outing for Medeama was completed when leading scorer Jonathan Sowah was sent off in the final minute of regular time after being yellow-carded twice.

Young Africans have five points from four matches and lie second behind title-holders Al Ahly of Egypt on goal difference in the contest for a top-two finish and a place in the knock-out stage.

Medeama and Chabab Belouizdad, the Algerian club who reached the Champions League quarterfinals in the last three editions, have four points each.

The fixture between Belouizdad and record 11-time champions Ahly, scheduled for Algiers, was postponed as the Cairo team are competing in the Club World Cup.
