The Gujarat Titans suffered a calamitous evening after being asked to bat first as they collapsed to an embarrassing 89 all out and lost by six-wickets with a whopping 11.1 overs to spare in their IPL match against the Delhi Capitals at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Wednesday.

The Capitals took the opportunity to improve their net run-rate and attacked from the first ball which Jake Fraser-McGurk hit for six against debutant seamer Sandeep Warrier.

It resulted in the fall of four wickets but the result was never in doubt as Delhi finished on 92-4 in just 8.5 overs.

Fraser-McGurk’s 20 came from 10 balls, all in boundaries, while Abishek Porel (15 off 7 balls) and Shai Hope (19 off 10) continued the gallop to victory.

Captain Rishabh Pant finished proceedings with 16* off 11 balls.

Earlier, everything which could go wrong for the Titans, did, and the result was their lowest ever score in the IPL.

The home side’s plight was perhaps best represented by Tristan Stubbs, asked to bowl a rare over of part-time off spin, claiming two stumpings to finish with figures of 2-11 off his solitary over.

Four of the top five batsmen were dismissed in single figures with Ishant Sharma (2-8) having captain Shubman Gill (8) caught at cover and David Miller (2) brilliantly caught, one-handed down the legside, by β€˜keeper Pant.

Abhinav Manohar (8) was smartly stumped by Pant but Shahrukh Khan (0) was desperately unlucky as Stubbs fired the delivery down the legside and Pant dropped the ball onto the stumps to give the Proteas power-hitter his second wicket.

Rashid Khan top scored for Gujarat with 31 from 24 balls but even he could consider himself unlucky as an attempted ramp shot against Mukesh Kumar (3-14) was safely claimed by Pant.

Both teams have struggled for consistency but the Capitals will take heart from the win as they draw level with the Titans in sixth place with a 3-4 record from their seven matches.
