The result pushed the Capitals to second position in the 2019 tournament's eight-team standings, while the Sunrisers remain sixth.

Delhi built a formidable final total of 155 for seven, after which Hyderabad replied with an insufficient 116 all out.

The Capitals effectively banked on the success of middle-order duo Colin Munro and Shreyas Iyar, who struck 40 and 45, respectively. The New Zealand recruit and visiting captain's near half-centuries proved particularly important after openers Pritvhi Shaw and Shikhar Dhawan fell early.

Left-arm seamer Khaleel Ahmed exploited conditions well, snaring three wickets, after Sunrisers captain Kane Williamson had opted to bowl first.

The Sunrisers' pursuit, though, failed to justify the decision at the toss. Openers Jonny Bairstow and David Warner - two of four centurions in this year's IPL season - characteristically and collectively capitalised at the top of the order before the rest failed to follow suit.

Warner gathered 51 to Bairstow's 41 during a 72-run alliance inside 10 overs, until South African duo Chris Morris and Kagiso Rabada - and West Indies fast bowler Keemo Paul - collected 10 wickets for a mere 44 runs.

The collapse was, indeed, catastrophic for the Sunrisers. Batsmen three through seven shared just 16 runs - and the tail-enders weren't any better.

Paul was named Man of the Match for telling figures of three for 17, which featured Bairstow and Williamson's departures. He also took two catches to get rid of allrounders Rashid Khan and Abhishek Sharma.

Monday will see the Mumbai Indians hosts the Royal Challengers Bangalore at the Wankhede Stadium.
