Bravo retires hurt morning after being hit by bouncer

West Indies batsman Darren Bravo retired hurt in the second test against India in Jamaica on Monday, the morning after being struck on his batting helmet by a bouncer.

Bravo was hit by a short delivery from Jasprit Bumrah in the final over on Sunday, but batted on and saw out the last two balls.

He returned for the start of day four, but lasted only three overs before deciding to retire hurt on 23 and he left the field to be examined by a doctor.

Jermaine Blackwood was named as a concussion substitute and went out to bat following the fall of the fourth wicket before lunch.

The incident came less than a month after Australian Steve Smith was felled by a Jofra Archer bouncer during the second Ashes test against England, and with concussion in sport a hot topic.

Smith retired hurt after being struck in the neck, and though he returned to the crease 40 minutes later, he was ruled out of the remainder of the test the following morning after experiencing the effects of delayed concussion.

He also missed the next test.
