Vaughn van Jaarsveld smashed a maiden, unbeaten century to help the Hollywoodbets Dolphins to a seven-wicket victory in their CSA T20 Challenge match against the Warriors at St George’s Park in Port Elizabeth on Friday.

Full Scorecard

With the Dolphins chasing 154 for the win, Van Jaarsveld, batting in an opening role, dominated from the outset blasting 12 fours and five sixes off 69 deliveries in his 112 not out as the visitors got home with 10 balls to spare.

The victory kept the Dolphins' hopes of making the semifinals alive with one group stage round to come on Sunday. The Warriors had already qualified for the playoff stages coming into the match.

The Dolphins set about their target in positive fashion despite the early loss of Morne van Wyk for three. Van Jaarsveld led the way dispatching the ball with disdain to all parts of St George's Park.

His previous best in this competition was 82 not out scored five seasons ago against the Titans in Cape Town.

Cody Chetty offered solid support with 26 as the duo combined to share a match-winning stand of 81 in 59 balls for the second wicket.

Warriors captain Jon-Jon Smuts tried all of his bowling options and it was eventually Andrew Birch who trapped Chetty leg before wicket. It was his second scalp after picking up Van Wyk in the fourth over. But it was too little, too late.

Earlier, a quick-fire, maiden half-century by Sisanda Magala saved the Warriors blushes as they posted 153 for seven after having been asked to bat.

Magala, who clubbed exactly 50 to beat his previous best of 25 not out, featured in a face-saving seventh-wicket partnership of 81 runs with fellow seamer Andrew Birch (32 not out) after the Warriors had been in deep trouble at 72 for six in the 12th over.

The pair fronted to rattle up their stand in only 53 balls to ensure their bowlers would have a decent total to defend.

Magala was particularly effective slamming five fours and sixes sixes in just 32 deliveries. He was out to the last ball of the innings bowled by Robbie Frylinck, who took two for 35 after the team’s three spinners had performed well.

Opener Matthew Breetzke produced a well-struck innings of 41 in 29 balls with four fours and two sixes at the top of the order.
