The International Tennis Federation (ITF), the world governing body of tennis, have confirmed that Cape Town is ready to host their ITF Young Seniors World Championships.

The Championships, made up for two events namely the ITF Young Seniors World Team Championships and ITF Young Seniors World Individual Championships, will be played from 19 March – 1 April 2017.

There will be 85 teams from 25 countries represented at both events.

The ITF Young Seniors World Championships is the highest ranked event on the ITF Seniors Circuit for male and female players in the age categories of 35-45.

Bertie Conradie has been announced as the Tournament Director, Iain Smith as the Tournament Referee, and Ronnie van ’t Hof, the Tennis South Africa (TSA) Board member responsible for Seniors Tennis, confirmed as the ITF representative. Conradie, Smith and van ‘t Hof are all South African’s.

In a media briefing held in the Mother City on Tuesday, van ‘t Hof said that the ITF had given South Africa the thumbs up as hosts and Cape Town was ready to host the Championships. “A lot of hard work has gone into the preparation of this major event by some very dedicated individuals over the past two years and the tournament team are excited to start with the event and welcome the world to South Africa.”
