The young Springbok Sevens side laid down a massive marker in the Singapore Sevens on Saturday, beating Fiji 17-7 to win their pool and advance to the semifinals.

The Blitzboks were exceptionally good on defence, and allowed Fiji no space, while exploiting the few chances they got on attack to score a massive morale-boosting victory.

While the old heads were their normal impressive selves, it was the young guns – Kurt-Lee Arendse and Angelo Davids - who impressed with second half cameos, with Arendse adding to his brace of tries against Canada with another against the Fijians.

It seems as if for once this season, the experience and youth blended perfectly to score a win against a team that has so often had their number, and will give them a lot of confidence for the final day on Sunday.

The Blitzboks will face Samoa in their quarterfinal, the most improved side on the circuit this year, and another physical encounter awaits. The game will kick off at 5.30am. (GMT, CAT +2)

The other Bok tries were scored by Stedman Gans and Werner Kok.
