Blitzboks face All Blacks in Dubai final

The Blitzboks will meet New Zealand in the final of this year’s Dubai Sevens tournament as they out to defend the title they won last year.

Neil Powell’s side won a gritty battle against arch-rivals Fiji 12-7, beating the South Sea magicians by striking when needed, and using their defence to shut down the fancy footwork that normally gets the Fijians through.

New Zealand beat England 14-5 in an epic semifinal battle to set up the clash, and will be better prepared than last year, giving the Blitzboks a true test of their character.

Yet, the Blitzboks have been resolute in the way they have defended this year, ensuring the Fijians had little or no space to move and even when they got the offload away, they were quickly swamped and stopped by the defence.

Cecil Afrika joined try-scoring machine Seabelo Senatla on the scoreboard, with Fijian maestro Jerry Tuwai finally crossing late in the game to make it look respectable.

The Blitzboks will face New Zealand at 5.28pm (CAT, GMT+2). The game will be live on Supersport 2.
