Schoeman signs for Edinburgh

Promising young Vodacom Bulls prop Pierre Schoeman has been signed to Edinburgh for the forseeable future.

Schoeman signed a three-year deal with the Scottish club and will join them after the conclusion of Super Rugby this season.

While the Bulls tried to keep him, Schoeman has been the target of several big-money offers and chose Edinburgh in the end after several offers from English clubs as well.

“I am truly honoured and excited to join Edinburgh. It’s a beautiful city filled with tradition and culture,” Schoeman said in a statement on the Edinburgh website.

“I can’t wait to pursue my dreams and give all my effort, time and attention to Edinburgh and its supporters.

“I am forever grateful to the Bulls and its fans and I thank them for their support over the years.”

Head Coach Richard Cockerill added: “We’re delighted that Pierre will join the club next season. He’s a young, dynamic prop, who has a big future ahead of him.

“Pierre has shown his quality in Super Rugby and we’re excited to see what he’ll bring to what is an already strong Edinburgh front-row."

The move couldn’t come at a worst time for the Bulls, as Schoeman has started all six their games thus far and was man of the match against the Stormers last weekend.

“The Blue Bulls Company would like to confirm that Vodacom Bulls and Blue Bulls prop Pierre Schoeman will be leaving the team at the end of the 2018 Vodacom Super Rugby season to further his career at Edinburgh Rugby Club in Scotland,” a statement from the Bulls said on their website.

“The BBCo did their best to try and persuade the young prop to remain at Loftus, however with personal ambitions and goals at the forefront of his decision, he humbly declined a compelling offer. Schoeman is an extremely driven individual who has a hunger to play internationally, while experiencing the world.

“He is a larger than life and lovable personality and will be sorely missed by his peers and the fans alike at Loftus. We sincerely thank him for his unwavering commitment to the team and the brand, both on and off the field, and would like to take this opportunity to wish him all the success he so deserves.”

Schoeman was not part of the recent group of Bulls players invited to the alignment camps under new coach Rassie Erasmus.
