Louw in dock over alleged eye gouging

South African flanker Francois Louw could face a long suspension after being cited on Tuesday over an alleged eye gouging incident in his club Bath's Europeam Champions Cup clash with Benetton Treviso over the weekend.

The 32-year-old, who has been with Bath since 2011, has been cited by Irish citing commissioner Tim Lowry for allegedly gouging opposing lock Marco Fuser three minutes from time of the 23-0 victory for the English side.

Louw, capped more than 50 times by the Springboks, will face a tribunal in London on Wednesday and if found guilty could face a suspension from a minimum of four weeks to a maximum 52.

Fuser for his part is also charged for having allegedly bitten Louw during the incident and faces a ban ranging from 12 weeks to, in the worst circumstances, 208 weeks.

His case will also be heard on Wednesday in London.
