Euro Wrap: Lambie shines on debut

Springbok utility back Patrick Lambie made a successful return to rugby when he made his debut for French club Racing 92 in their 22-18 European Champions Cup win over Leicester Tigers at Stade Yves du Manoir on Saturday.

The former Sharks player, who was sidelined with concussion for most of the year, came on as a sixth minute replacement at full-back for Rscing's Argentina international Juan Imhoff, who was injured.

Meanwhile, ex Springbok and Sharks scrum-half Ruan Pienaar a penalty and two conversions in Montpellier's 24-17 loss to Leinster in Dublin. Fellow former Sharks and Boks stalwarts Frans Steyn and Bismarck du Plessis lined up at inside centre and hooker for Montpellier while ex Bulls representatives Jacques du Plessis and Nicholaas Van Rensburg were the starting locks.

Elsewhere on Saturday, former Western Province and Stormers loose forward Don Armand was one of Exeter Chiefs' standout performers in their 24-15 Champions Cup triumph over Glasgow Warriors at Sandy Park.

In other Champions Cup action, former Cheetahs centre Robert Ebersohn scored a try for Castres in their 17-17 draw with Rassie Erasmus' Munster at Stade Pierre Fabre on Sunday.

Castres had a healthy South African representation in their ranks with ex Lions and Sharks scrum-half Rory Kockott, former Sharks hooker Jody Jenneker and former Free State Cheetahs all in their starting line-up while Ireland and ex Bulls number eight CJ Stander was in Munster's run-on side.

In another Sunday clash, ex Sharks centre Brad Barritt and Springbok and former Stormes prop Vincent Koch scored tries as defending champions Saracens claimed an easy 57-13 win over Northampton Saints at Franklin's Gardens.

Elsewhere, former Sharks full-back Scott Spedding finished with an eight-point haul, courtesy of a try and a penalty, as Clermont claimed a 26-21 win over the Ospreys in Swansea.

Ulster also kicked off their campaign in style with a 19-9 win over Wasps at the Kingspan stadium on Friday with former Sharks trio Louis Ludik (wing) Jean Deysel (number eight) and Wiehahn Herbst (prop) as well as ex WP and Stormers loose forward Robbie Diack all in their starting XV.

In other action:

- In the Challenge Cup, Springbok and former Lions scrum-half Faf de Klerk kicked two penalties and two conversions in Sale Sharks' 20-20 draw with Toulouse in Salford. Ex Bulls flanker Jono Ross was also in Sale's run-on side as captain while former Cheetahs props Maks Van Dyk and Daniel Mienie started for Toulouse.

- Former WP, Cheetahs and Lions lock George Earle scored a try in Cardiff Blues' 29-19 win against Lyon at Cardiff Arms Park.

- Ex Stormers, Bulls and Cheetahs centre Johann Sadie scored a try for Agen in their 45-10 win over Zebre at Stade Armandie. Sadie was joined in Agen's run-on side by ex Golden Lions flanker Marco Kotze.

- Another former Cheetahs player, lock Rynard Landman, also crossed the whitewash for the Dragons in their 32-27 defeat to Newcastle Falcons at Kingston Park.
