SA stars shine for Montpellier



Springbok utility back Frans Steyn, scrumhalf Ruan Pienaar and former South Africa under-20 lock Paul Willemse shone for Montpellier as they consolidated their position at the top of the Top 14 table with a 43-20 win over Toulon at the Altrad Stadium at the weekend.

Pienaar led the way with a nine-point haul courtesy of three conversions and a penalty while his former Sharks teammate Steyn and ex-Bulls stalwart Willemse scored a try apiece.

In other Top 14 action, former Western Province, Stormers and Springbok Sevens flyer Cheslin Kolbe scored a try as Toulouse made a statement of intent with a 57-17 victory over Stade Français at Stade Ernest Wallon.

Meanwhile, in the Premiership, former Bulls loose forward Jono Ross was Sale Sharks' co-captain in their 36-7 victory over London Irish at the AJ Bell Stadium in Salford.

Ross was joined in Sale's starting line-up by Springbok and former Lions scrumhalf Faf de Klerk and Scotland and ex-Lions loose forward Josh Strauss.

And in the Pro14, former Stormers lock Jean Kleyun scored a try for ex-SA Rugby High Perfomance Manager Rassie Erasmus's Munster in their 21-16 win against Ospreys at Liberty Stadium in Swansea.

Former Springbok, Stormers and Lions utility back Jaco Taute lined up at outside centre in Munster's run-on side.

In other action, former Sharks flanker Johan Meyer scored a try in Zebre's 54-39 defeat to the Cheetahs in Bloemfontein.

Elsewhere, former Sharks prop Wiehahn Herbst and ex-Western Province hooker Rob Herring started for Ulster in their 20-17 triumph over defending champions, the Scarlets, at the Kingspan Stadium in Belfast.

And at Rodney Parade in Newport, former Springbok and Bulls fullback Zane Kirchner, ex-Cheetahs scrumhalf Sarel Pretorius and ex-Stormers and WP prop Brok Harris helped the Dragons to secure a 21-8 win over Connacht.

Ireland and former Stormers lock Quinn Roux scored a try for Connacht.
