Bulldogs hand Griffons first loss

The Down Touch Griffons suffered a 41-33 defeat against a spirited Border Bulldogs side in the Currie Cup First Divison on Saturday at HT Pelatona Projects Stadium in Welkom.

No 1 on the log, the Griffons, were made hard to work but it was a brave effort from the visitors who ran in six tries against the five from the Griffons. Both sides converted four of their tries while the Bulldogs added a penalty conversion handing them an eight-point victory.

A massive second-half performance, which saw 75 points scored, from both teams kept a modest crowd entertained.

The Border Bulldogs finished in the sixth position on 19 points despite handing the log leaders their first and only loss of the pool stages of this year's competition.

The Griffons along with the Hino Valke will host the semifinals set to take place on 14 October.

The Leopards finished in the third position while the Wellington side, Boland Cavaliers, are the fourth side after they snuck in at the back door with a final-round 24-26 win against Welwitschias.
