‘The bike worked superbly in both races’

Ducati rider Chaz Davies said everything worked perfectly for him in his two victories at Imola in the World Superbike Championships this past weekend.

The Iconic circuit of Autodromo Internazionale Enzo e Dino Ferrari di Imola is also the home circuit of the Aruba.it Racing – Ducati team and it showed with Davies' dominant performance when taking the pole position, fastest lap and winning both races at the Italian track.

After a second race restart in Race Two, Davies worked his way past the field to claim his second victory of the weekend and the fourth career victory in a row at Imola.

In Saturday's Race One, Davies' Ducati teammate Marco Melandri finished second and was just ahead of Kawasaki's Jonathan Rea with Tom Sykes in fourth.

On Sunday in Race two, Rea finished second with teammate Sykes third, both behind Davies.

In the rider standings, Rea still dominated after five events, sitting on top of the pile with 235 points and is followed by Davies with 161 points and Sykes in third spot on 160 points.

In an interview after his stunning double victory, Davies said that he felt they had found rhythm for the first time and never looked back from there.

"What a weekend. Up to this point in the season we've had a mixed bag and our biggest adversaries have come out strong - this is the first weekend where we feel like we've been the benchmark and we've been able to find a rhythm," said Davies.

"From the second session we were able to find it and it snowballed from there into the double victory. I just can't say enough things about how the bike performed around here, it worked superbly in both races.

"We made very little changes and although the track conditions were different today it was working equally as well. The second race was quite different to the first - I was a bit lucky for the restart because I messed it up a bit in the first start but in the restart, I got a very good launch and managed to make a few decisive moves.

"I profited from Jonny's mistake at the chicane and then it was a question of hunting down Tom; he had a really good pace and it was a bit of a grit between the teeth to get past him. Once I did I just concentrated on setting my pace like in practice and it was enough to break away.”
