Marquez tops chaotic FP3 session in Brno

Reigning World Champion Marc Marquez was quickest in a red-flagged session after a series of crashes at Brno.

Marquez, on his last flying lap, dislodged Dani Pedrosa at the top of the leaderboard with a best average time of 1:55.370, a tenth quicker than his Respol Honda teammate.

Valentino Rossi improved significantly in the dying stages of the delayed session, going from being in danger of having to qualify through Q1 to finishing third on the overall FP3 standings.

An oil leak from Alvaro Bautista's bike just five minutes into the session sparked two more big crashes with Marquez and Cal Crutchlow, who appeared to have injured his ankle, both becoming victims of a slippy track.

The session was red-flagged due to the track conditions and repair work needed to a damaged tyre wall.

Seven minutes after the restart following a lengthy delay, Pedrosa and Johann Zarco both suffered offs, But, the former soon recovered and set a very competitive benchmark by going at least seven tenths quicker than the rest of the field.

Scott Redding would then lose control and crash at Turn 5 with the chequered flag looming, with Aleix Espargaro leaving it very late to be able to get within half a second of Marquez and secure his place straight through to Q2.

Jonas Folger, who shone in the last race on home soil before the summer break, was among the high-profile riders to finish outside of the top 10.
