Second-place Rea struggled with tyres

Kawasaki rider Jonathan Rea was able to claim a podium finish in the World Superbike event at Misano over the weekend despite struggles with tyre feeling on his ZX-10RR machine.

Sunday's Race Two was won by Marco Melandri on his Aruba.it Racing – Ducati, with Rea next followed by teammate Tom Sykes.

In an interview after the race, Rea confirmed he struggles with his back tyre but was happy with the podium finish.

“We didn’t change the bike too much compared to yesterday,” said Rea. “But I had a big problem with the rear tyre, I had so much vibration with the rear and I was thinking too much about this.

"I tried to take the pace back a bit and just worked on trying to finish the race. Overall I’m happy with the result, but I’m just disappointed with our pace and the bike today, but big congratulations to Marco, it’s a fantastic achievement for him.”

Sykes said he was happy with his podium finishes, especially after having won Race One and was keen on the next WSBK event at Laguna Seca.

“Overall I have to look at the positives and it was a good weekend. In the race, the consistency was pretty good, but I was disappointed in the opening laps," said Sykes. "I wasn’t able to do as I should do on fresh tyres, I’m not able to perform as I should and it’s really strange, but it was the same yesterday.

"Today I have to say that my pace was much stronger, but the issue from the beginning of the race could have improved. If we can improve this alone, it will be a big step towards the front but at the end of the race, we had some good consistency.

"Overall we have to be happy with the weekend and the main focus is to improve the bike in the first five laps.”
