Clatous Chama

Zesco fail to re-sign Chama

Zesco United have admitted that they failed in their attempt to re-sign midfielder Clatous Chama from Lusaka Dynamos during the July transfer window and gave up on him because he was too expensive.

Chama left Zesco United at the end of last season – having scored fifteen goals in two seasons with the Ndola-based outfit - to join Egyptian side Al Ittihad, only to return to the MTN FAZ Super League with Lusaka Dynamos at the beginning of the current campaign.

Zesco United Media and Public Relations Officer Katebe Chengo told supersport.com that Chama was one of the four Zambian players her club had tried to sign in July.

“We had interest in Justin Shonga but Nkwazi said they were not ready to sell him. We also had interest in Brian Mwila and Martin Phiri but their clubs said they were not for sale.

“As for Clatous Chama, the conditions which were given to us by his club were too high and quite unaffordable for us. I can’t reveal money issues here, but they were quite high for us so we couldn’t afford him,” said Chengo.

Meanwhile Lusaka Dynamos Treasurer Meeth Naik, while admitting that Chama’s selling price was high, said the club did not want to sell their captain.

“Zesco United approached us but we refused to sell. He is the captain of the team and an integral part of the revived Lusaka Dynamos FC,” said Naik.
