Sulieman blames departures on Wanderers woes

Mufulira Wanderers coach Ahmed Sulieman has admitted they are struggling because of three key off-season departures.

The nine-time champions have made a terrible start to the 2017 Faz Super League campaign, after losing their opening two games and are bottom of the log.

On Monday, Wanderers lost 4-1 at home to old Foe City of Lusaka at Shinde Stadium in Mufulira.

That defeat came a week after they were downed 3-0 away, by Green Buffaloesin their Week 1 in Lusaka.

Wanderers have especially been hit in defence, where they have lost Allan Kamwanga Jr, Warren Kunda and ex-captain Taonga Bwembya to Power Dynamos, Green Eagles and champions Zanaco respectively.

“Last season we ended the season strong, before I went for my holiday to Egypt, I wrote to the executive, telling them that none of my first team players should go but when I came back I found my captain had left,” Suliman said.

“Mufulira Wanderers is a big team a big brand with good supporters, every player wants to come here.”

The Egyptian-born coach said he has also hit a brick wall to try and to get three pre-season targets to sign-on.

Wanderers, who finished 11th last season, are entering their third straight year in the FAZ Super League.

Zambia’s second most successful club after Nkana returned to the top flight in 2015 for the first time since 2005.
