Azam make Mapinduzi Cup final



Azam FC cruised into the finals of this year's Mapinduzi Cup following a 5-4 penalty shootout victory over Simba after the game was tied 2-2 at the end of extra time.

Humphrey Mieno scored early in the tenth minute after a superb cross from Ibrahim Mwaipopo, to put Azam 1-0 ahead of Simba.

Simba dominated the second half, but the equalizer came late in the 78th minute. Ismail Rashid scored to take the game to extra time.

Youngster Miraj Madenge scored to put Simba 2-1 ahead, before Joachins Atudo netted an equalizer from a penalty spot in the final minutes of Extra time as the game was tied at 2-2.

Eventually, Azam's lucky night stood up as they scored their five penalty shoots, while Simba's Haroun Athuman saw his spotkick hit the woodwork.

Meanwhile, Kenyan champions Tusker FC face Zanzibar's Miembeni SC in the second Semi-final match this Thursday, with the final to be staged on Saturday.
