Biffo says Warriors won’t be relegated

Abia Warriors head coach Abdullahi Usman Biffo has said his side are in complete control of their destiny as far as their top-flight status is concerned.

The Warriors will host their neighbours and vice champions, Rivers United in Saturday’s Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) make or mar Matchday 38 clash at the Umuahia Township Stadium.

Biffo said the Pride of Rivers have not picked up a point in Umuahia since the side joined the elite league, and the record will remain unchanged at the end of football hostility.

“Our destiny is completely in our hands we do not have to beg or pray for anyone to either win or lose for us to maintain our top-flight status quo.

“However, we cannot afford to make mistake no matter how small it’s in the clash against Rivers United.

“Rivers United have never picked point in Umuahia since we became a premier league side I do not see any change to the status quo.

“I do not see Rivers United as a threat to our premier league status though we will duly accord them respect.

“I have already told the players to come up with their finest performance in the ongoing top-flight against Rivers United.

“We have seen matches in the 37 weeks but the last one – week 38 is the most important one for us.

“The way the league log is at present showed that up to eight teams can still go down on relegation after Matchday 38 clash on Saturday.

“The beauty of it all is that aside Abia Warriors others, Sunshine Stars, 3SC, Wikki Tourists, ABS FC are not in charge of their destiny.

“Our hearts are not shaken and our message to the teeming fans is that Abia Warriors will not go down on relegation,” said the former Niger Tornadoes coach to supersport.com.

The Umuahia Warriors are 15th on the 20-team top-flight log on 50 points, 13 behind league leaders Plateau United.

The Warriors must win the clash against Rivers United to guarantee their position in the Nigerian top-flight.
