Gyang happy to be back for Pillars

Kano Pillars winger Amos Gyang celebrated his return to the side as he scored a goal and won the man-of-the-match award to help ‘Sai Masu Gida’ defeat visiting MFM FC 3-1 in a Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) game on Sunday.

The game played at the Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano saw the former Giwa FC man come off the bench to score Pillars' second goal after sitting out the last six games.

Rabiu Ali got Pillars on their bikes with a coolly converted penalty in the 12th minute, the first spot kick the former champions will get this season.

League leading scorer Stephen Odey equalised for the Lagos side in the 63rd minute as it looked like MFM were going to get a point in Kano.

However, the introduction of Gyang into the game in the 70th minute was the major catalyst to Pillars' win as he restored their lead and constantly tormented the MFM defence line.

Gyang’s ingenuity provided Adamu Mohammed with the opportunity to score the third goal late in the game to seal the three points for the home side.

A visibly excited Gyang told supersport.com that he is glad to be back on the field doing what he knows best as well as helping Pillars win the game.

“Sitting out games is hard but you have to respect the coach’s decision as he is in charge, but every footballer will tell you he prefers playing and I’m no different,” he said.

“It was a tough game but I’m glad that I was able to come in and help the team to beat MFM. I must say it is a good feeling.

“MFM gave us a tough game but I’m happy that I scored and most importantly that we won the game. This will give me confidence going into our next game. I’m very happy with the way I played and the result.”
