Johnson challenges Stars players

Platinum Stars coach Cavin Johnson is looking for a response from his charges in the weekend’s Nedbank Cup quarterfinal tie in Durban after a disappointing loss to Polokwane City on Wednesday night.

"We are going to have to come with our A-game if we want to proceed to the next stage. We are going to have to play much better than we did against Polokwane City," Johnson told his club’s website as they travelled to Durban to meet Lamontville Golden Arrows.

Johnson said his players were not ruthless enough against Polokwane, and particularly poor in front of goal.

“We had possession of the game but we just couldn't put it in the net. In the league, we don't execute proper technique. You can't fault the players for effort. The thing is the mental strength within the game that is letting us down. Players lose concentration in critical moments of the game. We need to fix that up. With seven games to go we have got to make sure that we get as many points as we can," said Johnson.

He said he was expecting Dikwena to be on top of their game when they take on Arrows in the cup.

"We will go out there and fight as hard as we can. Going to the next stage of the Nedbank Cup will be good for the players. It’s going to be a hard game. It’s going to be tough because Golden Arrows are a good team. They push hard," said Johnson.

“We expect players to take the game by the scurf of the neck to say we going forward but also make sure that we don't give away possession for teams to attack us. They can't win the ball too easily from us. That's what we need to work on. We need to also work on our organisation.”
