Kings closing in on Highlands

Round 17 of the 2017/18 National First Division saw Real Kings moved to the front of the chasing pack, with the Durban club now setting their sights on overhauling leaders Highlands Park.

Kings took full advantage of a loss for Jomo Cosmos - who were beaten 1-0 at Uthongathi FC - and a goalless draw between Mbombela United and Pretoria University, by defeating Super Eagles 3-1 at the Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium to move into second place on Saturday.

At the same time, Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila claimed a fine 2-0 away win at Witbank Spurs to move into fifth spot, Royal Eagles gave massive boost their battle against relegation by defeating Richards Bay 5-2, Cape Town All Stars won 2-1 at Black Leopards and Stellenbosch edged bottom-of-the-log Mthatha Bucks 2-1 at home.

Sunday’s lone game saw Highlands extend their lead to six points with a comfortable 3-0 win away to Ubuntu Cape Town, with Sphiwe Mahlangu, Peter Shalulile and Sabelo Nyembe scoring the goals for the Lions of the North.

The NFD will continue with a full round of fixtures next weekend, January 27-28.
