Time to end MTN8 drought - Tembo

SuperSport United assistant coach Kaitano Tembo is hoping the club can end their MTN8 drought when they tackle Cape Town City in the Durban final on Saturday.

Matsatsantsa last won the top eight trophy 13 years ago when coach Eric Tinkler's No 2 was still a player.

The Zimbabwean says they want to end that barren spell by lifting the trophy at the Moses Mabhida Stadium.

"We last won the competition way back in 2004, so we want to try and correct that on Saturday," Tembo said on Thursday. "Hopefully we can do that."

The Tshwane outfit have flourished under the guidance of Tinkler, who joined them from City in the off-season.

Apart from their foray to the final, SSU are also in the last four of the Caf Confederation Cup and play Club Africain of Tunisia in the second leg next weekend. They drew the first leg 1-1 at home on 1 October.

Tembo says they want to succeed in every competition they enter, but he insisted the focus for now was on the Citizens.

"We are a very ambitious club and we want to play in all the big matches, the big stages," he added. "Soon after this we going to Tunisia and we're looking forward to it because we want to be in this situation.

"It's the vision of the club. But it's important for now to take it game by game and for us the focus now is on Saturday."
