Mnyamane injury a big blow - Furman

SuperSport United will be without the injured Thabo Mnyamane when they face Club Africain in the CAF Confederation Cup semifinal clash on Sunday.

Mnyamane faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines after suffering a groin injury in the MTN8 final against Cape Town City at the weekend and Matsantsantsa skipper Dean Furman admits that the injury is a huge blow for the club.

“He is a huge miss for us. He scored from the rebound from the penalty in the last leg and he scored in the Cup final this weekend. Whether he starts or comes off the bench, he always has a huge impact so we wish him a speedy recovery and hope he will be back with us in time for the upcoming games,” said Furman.

However, the skipper believes the absence of Mnyamane could be an opportunity for youngster Fagrie Lakay to rise up and carry the team in their time of need.

“Whoever comes in to fill his (Thabo Mnyamane) place must be ready to fill his boots. You know these young boys are grounded, we have Teboho Mokoena who played in the Cup final and doesn’t get carried away by the situation. With Fagrie, he can be a huge player for us. With his pace he can cause all sorts of problems. He has had problems with injuries, but we are delighted he is back and trust that he could make a huge difference for us if the coach calls on him to play,” added Furman.
