Rivers Utd caused us problems - Regragui

FUS Rabat head coach, Hoalid Regragui says his side suffered a lot before overcoming Rivers United 2-1 on Friday to reach the quarterfinals of the 2017 Caf Confederation Cup.

The Nigerian club took the lead on the stroke of half time through Bolaji Sakin but FUS produced a stirring comeback to win at the death courtesy of goals from Youssef El Gnaoui and Mohamed Fouzair.

Regragui is however remaining modest in victory as he praised Rivers United for their effort at the Stade de FUS, Hay Nahda and branded the Port Harcourt club a "very strong team."

“We won this game (against Rivers United) in the last minute,” Regragui told supersport.com.

“There was not much between the two teams and we had to wait until the final minute to win the match.

“Rivers United is a very strong team,” he said.

The two North African clubs in Group A, FUS Rabat and Club Africain both progressed to the quarterfinals at the expense of sides from the sub-Sahara region of the continent.

Regragui however does not believe there is much in terms of disparity between the level of football in the two regions of the continent.

“I think the style of football played by my team is better than that played by Rivers United and KCCA but apart from that it was (pretty even).

“We qualified at the expense of KCCA only based on goals difference.

“I think there is a good evolution of football in Africa and I don’t think we still have small teams any more.

“It is also the same in the national team when the journalists expect Morocco to win when we play against teams like Uganda and Tanzania.

“For me it is the same; there are no little teams on the continent again be it at club or international level,” he said.
