South Africa's Victor Gomes is to officiate at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations after being named on a list of 26 referees for the tournament by the Confederation of African Football (Caf) on Thursday.

He will be joined at the tournament by top assistant referee Zakhele Siwela, who will be the only South African to run the lines.

Gomes is regarded by many as the country's leading match official and was recently in charge of the Caf Champions League semifinal, second leg, between TP Mazembe and Esperance in Lubumbashi, one of the toughest places to officiate on the continent.

He is joined from the Cosafa region by Helder Martins de Carvalho (Angola), Joshua Bondo (Botswana), Andofetra Rakotoiana (Madagascar), Ahmad Heeralall (Mauritius), Bernard Camille (Seychelles) and Janny Sikazwe (Zambia).
