Chippa hoping to stun Amakhosi

Chippa United will be hoping to send Kaizer Chiefs packing as they host the Soweto giants in the Absa Premiership on Wednesday night at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.

Kick-off is at 7:30pm.

The Chilli Boys will want to return to winning ways after seeing their past two league matches ending in draws.

Coach Teboho Moloi led his men to two draws against Free State Stars and Mamelodi Sundowns in the Absa Premiership.

However, he suffered a 1-0 loss at the hands of Steve Komphela's men in the Telkom Knockout quarterfinals at home.

On the log table, they currently occupy the seventh spot with 16 points from 12 matches and will want to win and move into the upper reaches.

Looking at the visitors, Chiefs are blowing hot and cold so far and a win in the Eastern Cape will ease their momentum concerns.

Although meeting Chippa for the second time in all competitions will bring challenges, Komphela will motivate his men to claim the full three points.

Prior to this meeting, Chiefs have drawn four games and their most recent is against AmaZulu and Free Free State Stars in the league, but they also suffered a 1-0 loss in the TKO to champions Bidvest Wits in the semifinals.

Looking at the log table, the Naturena-based outfit occupies the sixth spot with 16 points from 12 matches in their campaign so far and a win will elevate them to the second spot.

Previous Starting XI:

Chippa United: Akpeyi, Macheke, Okwuosa, Konqobe, Maphanga, Mvelase, Mabaso, Mdlinzo, Mako, Lentjies, Sekola

Kaizer Chiefs: Khune, Cardoso, Hadebe, Ngezana, Zulu, Katsande, Maluleka, Molangoane, Parker, Tshabalala, Paez

WHAT THE TEAMS ARE SAYING:

CHIPPA UNITED MIDFIELDER SANDILE ZUKE:

“We are looking forward to playing this game and winning it,” Zuke said.

“Kaizer Chiefs provided a platform for me and has made me the player that I am today. I cannot take that for granted.

“It has always been interesting playing against them over the years. I always try to not be on the losing team when I go up against them.

“Preparations have been going really well in the buildup to this match. The team has been working really hard and the players are all in sync.

“We have been looking forward to playing Kaizer Chiefs because morale in the Chippa camp is high. It is all going to boil down to who needs it the most on the day.”

KAIZER CHIEFS MIDFIELDER WILLARD KATSANDE:

"Chippa is a quality team, and it's always nice to play them, because they play fantastic football," Katsande said.

"Also, as Kaizer Chiefs, we draw a huge crowd in PE so I think it's going to be a good game for the fans and for us as well.

"The bottom line is we will try to go there and collect maximum points. Whatever happened in terms of winning the cup game is now under the bridge because we are out of the cup.

"Now we are going there in one mind, which is to grind the result and take maximum points."

KEY PLAYERS FOR CHIPPA UNITED:

BRIGHTON MHLONGO:

Mhlongo will be hoping to don the No 1 jersey and ensure he stops all the attacks launched by his former rivals back during at his days at Orlando Pirates. The Soweto-born keeper played against Sundowns and will hope to be ready this time around.

MOEKETSI SEKOLA:

Despite a bright start at the beginning of the campaign in front of goal, goals for the Chilli Boys forward have dried up and he will want to find his form once again. He will be a handful for the Amakhosi defence.

KEY PLAYERS FOR KAIZER CHIEFS:

DANIEL CARDOSO:

All eyes will be on the centre back as he will want to stop former Stars' teammate Sekola. He will want to stop everything launched by the hosts. His partnership with either Erick Mathoho or Lorenzo Gordinho will be key as they want to return to winning ways.

JOSEPH MOLANGOANE:

Molangoane is a former Chippa player and will want to show his bosses the quality which has made him a regular at Chiefs in recent times. With his dazzling runs on the flanks, his mission will be to create chances and win this one.
