Chideu saves Arrows' blushes

Lamontville Golden Arrows came back to hold Polokwane City to a 2-2 draw in an Absa Premiership match at the Princess Magogo Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The draw sees Abafana Bes'thende remain second on the league standings, while Rise and Shine move up to 10th spot on the table.

The match got off to a lively start and Rise and Shine broke the deadlock through their talisman, Rodney Ramagalela, eight minutes into the game.

The former Mamelodi Sundowns striker scored with a tap in to make it 1-0 to Polokwane folllowing a well-taken free-kick by Jabulani Maluleke.

However, Abafana Bes'thende responded with a goal three minutes later after the Rise and Shine defence was exposed.

An unmarked Knox Mutizwa fired past Polokwane's towering goalkeeper George Chigova to make it 1-1 for Arrows.

It was end-to-end stuff and Siphelele Magubane had a chance to hand Arrows the lead in the 27th minute, but he fired off the target.

Zimbabwean shot-stopper Chigova was the busier of the two keepers with the halftime break fast approaching.

Chigova snatched Lerato Lamola's effort before Kudakwashe Mahachi could pounce just before halftime and the score was 1-1 at the interval.

The home side had a chance to score from a free-kick in a promising area 13 minutes after the restart.

However, Magubane's shot from the set-piece missed the target as Abafana Bes'thende looked to take the lead for the first time.

Polokwane coach Bernard Molekwa made a change in the 68th minute - introducing Puleng Tlolane, a striker by trade.

The visitors then restored their lead through Sammy Seabi, who hit the back of the net to make it 2-1 to Polokwane from Ramagalela's cross.

This was after Ramagalela, who is the league's top goalscorer with six goals, had done some good work down the right hand side.

Arrows coach Clinton Larsen made a late substitution - introducing Thomas Chideu, a former Ajax Cape Town striker.

The Zimbabwean forward proved to be a super-sub as he scored for Arrows in stoppage time and the match ended in a 2-2 draw with Abafana Bes'thende maintaining their unbeaten run.
