Pitso claims Shonga is a Brazilian

Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Pitso Mosimane has claimed that Zambia striker Justin Shonga is not legally contracted to Orlando Pirates.

Despite making his official debut for the Buccaneers in the 2-2 draw with Orlando Pirates last Saturday, Mosimane revealed the Zambia international signed a pre-contract with Masandawana which included a five-year deal.

And if the claims are proven to be factual, the deal concluded by the Soweto giants, when the 20-year-old signed last week as a free agent, will come into question.

"There is a little bit of confusion there with Justin. Justin came to the club, we talked to him," he told reporters. "We will see how it goes going forward. There is a little bit of legalities, but I was there when we signed Justin."

The Brazilians' spokesperson, Thulani Thuswa, reiterated the former Bafana Bafana coach's words in a recent interview with IOL

"Yes, the boy signed a contract with Sundowns in July.

"He signed a five-year contract. It was three years with an option to renew with two years. Our legal team is having a look at the matter and we will then refer our contract to the Premier Soccer League," Thuswa added. "We are pursuing the matter.

"Shonga was supposed to join us in January, but couldn’t join us in this transfer window because we have already exceeded our foreign quota."
