Veteran Mathe wants to keep playing

Platinum Stars veteran Solomon Mathe received the perfect birthday gift with the opening goal as his side defeated Kaizer Chiefs 2-0 in the Absa Premiership and the midfielder says there is plenty more to come from him.

Mathe turned 37 on Wednesday and capped his special day with a headed goal to give Dikwena the lead and ultimately keep their top eight hopes alive.

They trail Ajax Cape Town in eighth by two points and Maritzburg United in seventh by three with a superior goal-difference, and if they can get a win at SuperSport United on the final day of the campaign on May 27, and other results go their way, there could be even more cause for celebration.

“I feel like I can carry on for the next five years. I’m fresh," Mathe said. "With the technical team that we have, they allow senior players to have more rest and our training programme is good. I think I can play three to five more years.”

It has been a fine end to the campaign for a Stars side that had struggled near the foot of the Absa Premiership table for much of it.

They are next away at Swaziland champions Mbabane Swallows in a African Confederation Cup Group B game on Tuesday.
