Arrows deserved more - Larsen

Golden Arrows coach Clinton Larsen admits Wednesday’s last-gasp defeat to Cape Town City was hard on his side as they look to secure a top-eight place for next season.

An own goal from Musa Bilankulu in the 94th minute saw Golden Arrows slip to defeat and they now trail eighth-placed Ajax Cape Town by a point going into a final match at home to Orlando Pirates on May 27.

“It’s a difficult defeat to accept, looking at the way it ended,” Larsen said. “I thought in the first half we gave a very good account of ourselves against a very good Cape Town City team.

“But once again, it’s been our Achilles Heel this season, we were not clinical enough. We should have gone into the break at least two goals to the good.”

City came out better in the second period and began creating chances at will.

“We knew at some stage they would grow into the game and they did, with a little bit more influence from [Lebogang] Manyama in the second half. He spent more time on the ball and they started causing us problems.

“We started sitting a little deeper, but on the breaks we should have punished them. We had three or four very good opportunities but weren’t clinical enough.

“A point behind eighth place … we still have everything to play for in the league in our last match.”
