2014 Tour de France to start in Yorkshire

The 2014 Tour de France will start from Yorkshire, England, race organisers said on Friday.

The city of Leeds, in Yorkshire, will host the "Grand Depart" on July 5, 2014 and there will also be a stage in London, organisers said in a statement.

The detailed stages will be announced next month.

"Following an exceptional 2012 for British cycling, marked by Bradley Wiggins's historical victory on the Tour de France, the United Kingdom will take centre stage again in 2014," the organisers said in a statement.

This year, Team Sky rider Wiggins became the first Briton to win the Tour.

The three-week race last started in Britain in 2007 when the prologue was held in London and the first stage also started in the city.

The "Grand Depart" has already taken place abroad 19 times, including five in the Netherlands and four in Belgium.
