DiData send strong climbers to Burgos

Team Dimension Data for Qhubeka is sending a strong climbing group to the Vuelta a Burgos evin Spain, which starts on Tuesday.

The team has used this event in previous years as part of the final preparation for the Vuelta a Espana. According to Team Qhubeka, this year the two summit finish stages, stage three and stage five, will be the targets for their climbing-focused roster.

Bingen Fernandez, sport director for the team, said, “Vuelta a Burgos is a really nice race and it presents some good opportunities for our team. At Burgos you are able to find a good race rhythm before the Vuelta a Espana because the race attracts some strong riders, so we are really happy to be here again.”

In Igor Anton, Omar Fraile, Merhawi Kudus, Lachlan Morton, Jacques Janse van Rensburg and Ben King they feel they have a pack of strong riders for the varying uphill gradients, which they feel will provide an advantage in chasing stage wins and should allow them to target a top placing in the overall classification.

Fernandez added, “Last year Team Dimension Data for Qhubeka won a stage and Igor Anton was also up there on GC, this year we hope for much of the same from our climbers. It will be nice to work with Nic Dlamini too, the young South African trainee, I think he will gain some valuable experience this week.”

Nicholas Dlamini is a 21-year-old South African who won the King of the Mountains title at the under-23 Giro d'Italia this year. Dlamini will ride as a stagiaire on our World Tour for the remainder of the 2017 season.
