In what appeared to be a mismatch, the 35-year-old Johannesburg-based Elvis Moyo from Zimbabwe outpointed South African heavyweight champion Ruann Visser over 10 rounds to score a unanimous points decision at the Time Square Sun Arena in Pretoria on Sunday afternoon.

Judges Simon Mokadi and Jaap van Nieuwenhuizen scored 97-93 and 96-94, and judge Phumeza Zinakile had it at 98-95.

Visser (118.25kg) appeared to be completely out of touch as he failed to land any solid punches and spent most of the fight pawing with his left hand and missing when he threw his right hand.

The stocky and much shorter Moyo (128kg) out-hustled his bigger, younger and more fancied opponent throughout.

There was very little action in round one and the first significant punch landed was in the second round by Moyo, scoring to the body with a right.

In rounds four and five, with little coming back from the rather clumsy Visser, 28, who did not appear to punch correctly, Moyo was able to score with some solids rights over the South African’s left.

Visser tried to pick up the pace in the seventh round but through rounds eight, nine and 10 there was very little solid action, with Moyo receiving a deserved decision in the end.

Moyo improved his record to 9-5-2; 4 and Visser’s record dropped to 14-2; 13.

Dennis Mwale W 6 Noah Chikwambane – lightweight.

Chris Thompson W 6 Lebo Mashitoa – junior heavy heavyweight.
