Fraser-Pryce announces pregnancy

Jamaican sprint star Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, a seven-time world champion, announced on Wednesday that she is pregnant, effectively ruling her out of a bid for a third consecutive 100m world crown at London in August.

Fraser-Pryce, the 2008 and 2012 Olympic 100m champion, revealed she is to become a mother in an Instagram posting.

"New chapter awaits, Hello Motherhood!!! See you soon," she wrote alongside a photo of herself. She also added two baby emojis and hastags of Motherhood2017 HisWill and PrycelessJourney!!

While the 30-year-old from Kingston did not specify her exact due date, the first 100m heats at the London IAAF World Championships would be August 5 -- less than five months away.

Fraser-Pryce, who married husband Jason Pryce in 2011, won 100m world titles in 2009, 2013 and 2015. She also captured the 200m titles in 2013 and was part of triumphant Jamaican 4x100 relays 2008, 2013 and 2015.

In addition to her Olympic 100m crowns, she took 200m silver in 2012 at London and 100m bronze last year at Rio. She also sparked silver medal efforts by Jamaica's 4x100 relay at London and Rio.
