Wozniacki drops Spanish coach
Women's tennis former world No 1 Caroline Wozniacki has ended her cooperation with Spanish coach Ricardo Sanchez after barely two months, a report said Wednesday.
"She didn't feel that she got sufficient new input," her father Piotr Wozniacki was quoted as telling the Danish tabloid Ekstra Bladet.
It was also difficult for Sanchez to find a role on the team, Piotr Wozniacki said.
The Danish player and her father, who earlier coached her alone, have a very close bond.
"Piotr and Caroline have their own system," Sanchez said. "Their relationship is very close. They really work well together. It was impossible to break the ice and join in."
"I have great respect for Piotr, who has never played tennis, and the work he has done. But he has his style and I have mine. Piotr has his system, I have mine. It's like (Jose) Mourinho and (Pep) Guardiola," Sanchez said, referring to the coaches of Spanish football teams Real Madrid and FC Barcelona.
According to Ekstra Bladet newspaper, Piotr Wozniacki would continue as coach and the team would also cooperate with Team Adidas.
Wozniacki is currently ranked No 4. She reached the quarterfinal stage of the recent Australian Open.
Sanchez has worked with other leading players and helped propel Jelena Jankovic to the top of the ranking list.p>
