BBC signs extension to Wimbledon deal

Wimbledon will be shown on the BBC in Britain through to 2017 after the All England Club signed a three-year extension to its deal with the broadcaster.

The BBC has broadcast action from the famous tennis tournament on radio and television since 1927.

Wimbledon is one of British sport's "crown jewels" - a select group of events that must be available live on free-to-air television.

Barbara Slater, director of BBC Sport, says "the BBC's first ever live sport broadcast was from Wimbledon and we are proud that our new deal means the longest partnership in sport's broadcasting continues."
