Scheepers climbs rankings

South Africa's top-ranked women's player, Chanelle Scheepers, climbed seven places to 70th on Monday when the Women's Tennis Association (WTA) rankings were released.

Scheepers also moved eight places from 50th to 42nd in the doubles rankings.

She reached the semifinal of the Claro Open Colsanitas in Bogota where she was beaten by Jelena Jancovic of Serbia.

The country's top-ranked men's player, Kevin Anderson, retained his 19th position, remaining among the top-20 singles players in the world, according to the latest Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) rankings.

Raven Klaasen – who reached the final of the men's doubles at the Australian Open with American partner Eric Butorac earlier this year – stayed in 26th place in the doubles rankings.

Lucas Sithole held onto the second spot in the men's singles quads division and dropped from 11th to ninth place in the doubles rankings.
