Scheepers loses in first round

South African women's tennis number-one Chanelle Scheepers, was dumped out of the first round of Wimbledon 7-6 7-6 by Yaroslava Shvedova of Kazakhstan on Tuesday.

Despite a close contest against the Kazakh, Scheepers was unable to win the crucial points and lost both sets in a tiebreak.

Scheepers matched Schevdova in every department, most notably with first-service points won, with the pair both winning 63 percent of their points.

Scheepers even shaded her opponent in total points won, winning 96 to Schevdova's 95.

The 28-year-old Scheepers has never made it past the first round of the grasscourt event, after three appearances at Wimbledon.
